Art has always been an abiding passion for Megs Morley, from drawing pictures of Jim Morrison for schoolfriends in her teens, to later hosting her own exhibitions and working with arts groups such as Enso, to more recently commissioning public art for Galway.

The collapse of Communism and its legacy for Eastern Europe and the implosion of the Irish economy and its ramifications for our State are two major themes which will be explored in this year’s TULCA festival.

THE TULCA Festival of Visual Arts 2011 kicks off on Friday next November 4. The festival will examine aspects of the recent fall-out in Ireland and internationally, by addressing artist responses to political, social, and economic collapse. Entitled ‘After the fall’ it will also consider re-imaginings of the future in the wake of these collapses. A range of well-known Irish artists will feature in this year’s programme, many of these artists engage with contentious issues in post-Celtic Tiger Ireland. Tulca runs until November 20 in galleries across Galway.

A diverse exhibition of photos and images produced by young people is to open at the Space Invaders Art Gallery, The Cornstore, Galway, today.
