An advertisement in the Irish Independent in July 1931 invited tenders from competent builders for the erection and completion of the proposed new St Nicholas’ National School in the Claddagh. When the new school was built it was described as “An attractive rectangular building with a red tile roof made by the Galway Brick and Tile Company”. The outdoor toilets were at the end of the playground.

The launch will take place on Saturday July 2 from 12 midday to 8pm at Unit 3, Doughiska, Galway. A range of gluten free options including fresh cod, sausages, onion rings, curry sauce, and homemade cut chips will be served from 12 noon to 8pm on the day alongside their usual menu.

Portumna Golf Club: It was a story of the three Marys from Portumna as the minor ladies won the All-Ireland at Donabate Golf Club. Portumna were unstoppable in the final with Mary McDonagh leading the way by scoring a 4&3 win in the first match. Mary McElroy followed with an impressive 7&5 win before Mary Kelly brought the title west thanks to a 5&4 win in the penultimate game.
