Galway city is set for a midsummer boost of up to €7m this weekend when more than 100,000 people flock to the city for the mouthwatering Seafest event.

As Galway is the European Region of Gastronomy 2018, this year’s SeaFest will also celebrate the city’s food heritage and culture. From farmer and fisherman to chef, restaurateur or consumer, food plays a critical role in all our lives in Galway. The European Region of Gastronomy 2018 designation will focus on the vital role of the food industry in the west of Ireland, and showcase the high quality and rich produce available in the region.

From famous ships to flyboarding, seafood and sailing, there is a host of activities on offer at SeaFest 2018, taking place in Galway Harbour on June 29, 30, and July 1.

This summer the Seafest event will show us all how the sea is for everyone. Like the hugely successful event last year, it will show off the possibilities of the activities on the sea, what we can learn from the sea, and how we should respect the sea. And this summer in Galway, two brothers will show how they are taking on a challenge to show us just how accessible a marine challenge can be.

The Seafest event, Ireland’s largest maritime festival will boost the Galway economy by more than €2million per day of its’ there day run from June 29 to July 1.

Galway city is preparing for a massive influx this weekend as crowds flock to attend the national maritime festival, SeaFest. The event is being launched by Mayor Pearce Flannery in the city this evening and is already set to be the best one ever.

Students from 4th class at Cregmore national school recently visited the research vessel RV Celtic Explorer as part of their marine-science and art project building up to SeaFest, Ireland’s national maritime festival. The project places art, marine science and technology in the heart of the classroom where the students have been learning about marine life and activity under the sea for the past six months. It involves TULCA in partnership with Marine Institute Explorers Education Programme, artist Louise Manifold, marine scientist Dr. Andy Wheeler, and Cregmore National School.
