The Connacht Primary Schools Cross Country Finals were held on Saturday, October 18 at Bushfield in Loughrea across four races. There were close to 600 athletes competing from across the province and there were some notable Galway medallists in the course of events.
Galway schools excel at Tailteann Games
Conor Penney of Calasanctius College and Craughwell AC was outstanding. He smashed the Tailteann Games High Jump record with a huge 2.09 metre effort. Penney leaped up to 2.05 metres clearing all heights on his first attempt, and then set the record initially by jumping over at 2.07m and added further to it when clearing 2.09m on his second attempt for an amazing victory.
