In truth it was not the most memorable contest as Kilkenny got the job done easing to an unconvincing victory over a very weak Dublin challenge at a rain and windswept Thomastown last Saturday afternoon. Severe showers preceded the game but thankfully the rain stayed away throughout. Kilkenny, playing into a strong first-half breeze, made a whirlwind blitzing start, and Dublin appeared to have a long afternoon ahead of them as Kilkenny led 2-0 to 0-1 after just six minutes.

Last Saturday was a memorable day for Kilkenny schools as Grennan College (Thomastown), Loreto Kilkenny and Castlecomer Community School all recorded All-Ireland victories in Trim Co Meath. The day began with Grennan College landing honours in the Roinn B title defeating St Louis Ballymena 4-9 to 3-3. Grennan playing into the breeze during the opening-half led 3-2 to 2-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Aine Lannon, Niamh Donnelly and Kelly Hamilton.
