Mayo sailing boats to be involved in Volvo sailing festival

A fleet of up to 30 sailing boats from Mayo will be given pride of place at the finale of 39,000 mile round the world Volvo Ocean Race in Galway. The boats will take part in the spectacular Parade of Sail on Galway Bay on Sunday July 1.

National sailing weekend

On the weekend of 23/24 June, over 60 sailing clubs and training centres nationwide will open their doors to take part in Sail Spree – an initiative developed by the Irish Sailing Association (ISA) to encourage people of all ages out on to the water to experience the thrill of water based activities.

An impressive group of world yachtsmen will attend a special maritime dinner as part of the Volvo Ocean Race celebrations in Galway.

Junior sailing courses at Rosmoney

Junior sailing courses will take place during July and August at Rosmoney. This year, Mayo Sailing Club is running the following courses: Start sailing, basic skills, improving skills, advanced boat handling and kites and wires and possibly some other advanced modules depending on demand and instructor availability. A brief outline of the various modules is given below. Noelle Doran will also be running some instructor training courses in the club, with the dinghy instructor course from June 18 to 22 next up.

Weekend of watersports in Mayo

Both Mayo Sailing Club and Bellacragher Bay Boat Club will be taking part in the Sail Spree weekend—June 23/24. Bellacragher Bay Boat Club will run their event on Saturday and Sunday providing ‘on the water’ taster sessions in a variety of boats including Hobie Cats (catamarans), dinghies and cruisers. It will take place around Achill Island.
