As part of its Sustainability Strategy, the management and staff at Galway Racecourse were delighted to take part last week in the 100 Million Trees Project & Uniphar Group enabling them to create their very own mini-forest on the ground of the 150 acre site.

Community and Environmental campaigners are asking the people of Galway to take part in a litter pick on General Election Day (Sat Feb 8) to help protect the city’s precious land and aquatic mammals, birds and insects that live in its woodlands, rivers and in the seawaters of Galway Bay. It will start at 12pm from the entrance to Terryland Forest Park adjacent to Currys on the Headford Road.

John Crossan and fellow tree walkers walked from Achill to Westport planting native trees in schools along the way. The Tree Walk has been visiting schools for the last 20 years but this was its first visit to south and west Mayo. John Crossan began the Tree Walk as a way of introducing today’s youth to trees, their history, importance, songs and stories, and giving each pupil a tree to plant and grow.
