The first Irish Geological Association (IGA) branch west of the Shannon was launched yesterday evening at 8pm in the geology museum (Quad building), at NUI Galway. Activities of the new IGA branch will include the recording and collecting of data on field trips to places of local geological interest, trips further afield with like-minded groups, and involving itself with the conservation and protection of local sites of scientific, educational and heritage interest. On meeting nights lectures will be provided for members by visiting speakers. Annual membership will be €20 per individual, €30 per family, or €5 per student.
