Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has expressed his satisfaction that Ballina has been crowned the winner of the 2013 Pride of Place for towns with a population of more than 2,000.

One of the top prizes at last weekend’s IPB All-Island Pride of Place Awards went to Shantalla Residents Association who were given particular recognition for their trojan work on the Gathering Project, bringing people from home and abroad together for the re-enactment of the Monster Rallies addressed by Daniel O’Connell.

At a gala awards ceremony in Thomond Park, Limerick on November 3, groups from Mayo took four of the top prizes in the All-Island IPB Pride of Place Competition in association with Co-operation Ireland.

The Galway Arts Festival and Castlegar village flew the flag for the city and county at All-Island IPB Pride of Place Competition, where they both received awards.
