Ballina Town took another step towards holding on to their Masters Division One title while Swinford B claimed the Division 2 crown with a game to spare on a wild and wet night in Solar 21 Park on Wednesday last.

Ballina Town stay six points clear at the top of Division 1 after a hard fought win over neighbours Straide & Foxford United while Swinford B remain the team to catch in Division 2 as the Masters League returned from its Christmas break last Wednesday night.

Manulla were crowned Mayo League masters division one champions on Wednesday night last with a comprehensive win over already relegated Snugboro. The win completed a league double for the Manulla 7’s and Masters sides. Straide and Foxford United follow Snugboro down to division two next season after being beaten by Kiltimagh-Knock United who finished the season in second place.

Manulla and Kiltimagh/Knock United kept the pressure on Westport United at the top of the league with wins but the Covies continued their drive towards the title in an entertaining game against Snugboro.

All three Mayo sides in action in the FAI Junior Cup last weekend recorded victories and advanced to the last 32. Manulla made the long trip to Leeside on Saturday evening and they came away with the spoils thanks a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Glen Celtic. Gary Concannon pulled back an equaliser for Tom Healy’s men with a quarter of an hour left on the clock to force extra-time. After a tense and frenetic extra period the dreaded penalty shoot-out was called for. Rory Martyn was denied first but a flawless return from Enda McGahon, Bryan Ralph, Conor Byrne and Connacht Gold Super Cup hero Declan Tonra sealed the win.
