Galway’s General Post Office on Eglinton Street in Galway city centre has long been a part of the fabric of this thriving city. An Post, through its sole agent, Cushman & Wakefield, are now offering the property to the open market.

We came across this drawing in the National Library titled “A narrow street in Galway, c.1840-1850”. The clue is in the handwriting at the top of the image, ‘Castle Bank’. In fact, it was a courtyard, not a street, looking at the back of Banks Castle off High Street. Our photograph (courtesy of the Chetham Library in Manchester), shows us much the same view about 25 years later. The property is now part of the King’s Head.

Former All-Ireland Mayo football winner Rev Peter Quinn died on Saturday last, January 30, in a nursing home in Enniscrone, Co Sligo. He was brother of the late Fr Des, who died in Dalgan Park in September 2015.

On Sunday afternoon one of the greats of Ardnaree's past Fr Peter Quinn will be laid to rest in St Patrick's cemetery in Kilglass. The current crop of Ardnaree players will be hoping that by the time Fr Quinn, who won All Ireland medals with Mayo in 1950 and 51, is laid to rest they will have followed in his footsteps and walked the staircase in Croke Park and become All Ireland champions.
