The Galway RNLI volunteer crew rescued three people from a boat with engine failure just off Salthill yesterday (Wednesday).

Two crew from the Galway Lifeboat Station were recognised for 30 years of volunteering at a recent RNLI volunteer recognition event and a third crew received his 20 year long service medal.

Thirty years is both a lifetime and the blink of an eye—long enough to shape a legacy, yet fleeting when measured against the endless rhythm of the sea. On the evening of 27 March 1996 at 9pm, a quiet but profound promise was made along the shores of Galway Bay. That promise—to save lives at sea—has been kept, steadfastly and selflessly, by the volunteers of the Galway RNLI Lifeboat Station ever since.

Galway RNLI’s volunteer crew were requested to launch by the Irish Coast Guard last Saturday following a report of two people stranded by the tide on Hare Island, which is located on inner Galway Bay.
