Connacht Cyclo Cross league round 2 Castlebar
Round two of the cyclo cross league was held at the grounds surrounding Lough Lannagh, Castlebar, the beautiful setting with Croagh Patrick as a backdrop was a hilly technical affair. Experience was the key and the results were dominated by riders from outside the province, with Tim O Regan, DID Dunboyne, and Peter O Farrel,l Wheelworx Dublin, having a fierce battle that was only sorted out on the penultimate lap. The 1.2k lap had to be negotiated 14 times with many riders taking a spill or two on the off camber sections.
Tough battle in Mayo cycling championships
Westport was the venue recently for the second ever Mayo Cycling Championship. The event attracted the best cyclists that Mayo has to offer with in-form riders such as Patrick Clarke from Castlebar and professional rider Charles Prendergast from Louisburgh taking their place on the starting line along with 51 other cyclists from the nine cycling clubs in Mayo.
Double the Mayo interest in this year’s Rás
This year will see two Mayo based teams taking part in the An Post Rás for the first time. Castlebar Cycling Club first entered a team in the big race in 2009 and has competed in three instalments of the race since, and will be once again on the start line when the race gets under way on Sunday. This years Rás team is made up of brothers Patrick and Ciaran Clarke alongside Bernard Twomeny, Chris Coyle, and David Brennan.
