Minister for State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has congratulated Pamela Flanagan, chairperson of the Westport Tidy Towns Committee, and the committee itself, on the wonderful results for Westport in the Tidy Towns competition 2011. Westport just lost out to Killarney on being overall winner by one point.

As the Presidential cavalcade drove into the Westport Leisure Centre, a sea of decorative caricatures, flag bearing children, and bystanders who were basking in the lovely weather, greeted Mary McAleese and her husband Martin.
A blooming success for Westport
Westport achieved the maximum five blooms at the international Communities in Bloom competition held in Canada last weekend. The awards honour municipalities from Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Japan which foster civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national programme, with focus on the promotion of green spaces in urban settings.
