Kilmeen Drama Group from Rossmore in West Cork were crowned all Ireland drama champions for 2011 at the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival gala awards ceremony in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone last Saturday night. The group won the event for the second time in their history with their production of Tom Murphy’s A Whistle in the Dark as well as picking up the awards for best actor - Declan Price, and best actress in a supporting role - Irene Kelleher.

The programme for the 2011 RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival was announced recently. Plays offered by the nine finalists will take place from Friday April 29 to Saturday May 7.

The finest amateur drama talent in the country will head to Claregalway from tonight (Thursday) March 11 when the Claregalway Drama Festival gets under way at the local leisure centre.
