The Traveller community in Galway city and county is proudly celebrating its rich culture, heritage, and contributions to Irish society with two special events this week as part of the national and local Traveller Pride celebrations.

Galway Traveller Movement (GTM) will celebrate the annual Galway Traveller achievements awards on Traveller Ethnicity Day, March 1. The ceremony will take place at the ILAS Centre, Newcastle Road, at 5:00pm.

The Misleór Festival of nomadic cultures will run in the city until October 1 with a vibrant programme featuring music, film, poetry, talks and visual art from Traveller, Roma, Sámi, Mongolian, Australian Aboriginal and Romany Gypsy communities.

Misleor, which starts on Thursday September 29, is a truly special event, and the only festival in Ireland that celebrates and connects nomadic cultures from around the world. The three-day festival includes a vibrant programme of music, theatre, film, poetry, and visual art from Traveller, Roma, Sa?mi, Mongolian and Romany Gypsy communities.
