Awaiting that news is the norm for so many every week and every day for so many families. As any family who has been touched by breast cancer will know, the waiting, the diagnosis, the fear are all part of the process. There is the fear of the known and the unknown; the potential that plans carefully honed will have to be shelved. Or not.

NUI Galway will host the 43rd Sir Peter Freyer Memorial Lecture and Surgical Symposium, the largest Surgical Conference in Ireland, from 7-8 September. The Symposium, named in memory of the Galway-born surgeon, Sir Peter Freyer, who performed the first successful surgical operation to remove an enlarged prostate in 1900, comprises of multiple research and education sessions across the various surgical subspecialties, two keynote addresses and a discussion forum around the future of Surgical Care in Ireland.

NUI Galway will host Ireland’s largest surgical conference, the 40th Sir Peter Freyer Memorial Lecture and Surgical Symposium over the next two days September 4-5 in the Arts Millennium Building, NUI Galway when internationally renowned surgeon, Dr Philip Schauer will deliver the Memorial Lecture entitled ‘Surgical Therapy for Diabetes – A New Order’.
