Mayo County Council’s Arts Service, The Office of Public Works (OPW) and the National Park & Wildlife Services, are delighted to announce that the visual artist, Susan Mannion, has been selected for the public art commission at the Wild Nephin Ballycroy National Park.

Coillte is encouraging people in County Mayo to participate in National Walking Day this Sunday, September 27, by visiting one of their local Coillte forests.

The Up and Over Challenge is now in its third year and is growing from strength to strength.

Coillte has announced that it is in the process of transferring ownership of their forests in Nephin into the Ballycroy National Park.

The Up and Over Challenge will take place over the Nephin Mountains on Sunday, April 2, where participants will be tested on a route that will bring them on a 5km run from Lahardane village to the forest at Carrowskeehan, then up Nephin mountain, before the descent back towards Cloghbrack, and a further 5km run back into Lahardane village.

As part of National Heritage Week, why not go along to Ballycroy National Park tomorrow night and unlock the night at Ireland's first International Dark Sky park. This free outdoor event will let you listen for bats, trap moths, seek out nocturnal wildlife and learn more about the effects of light pollution on humans and wildlife. 

A Mayo project to create Ireland's only 'wilderness area' in the remote Nephin Beg range at Ballycroy National Park is to be formally launched in early September.
