Castlebar councillors throw their support behind Humbert plan

A plan to stage a massive re-enactment of General Humbert’s invasion of Ireland from his landing in Kilcummin through the taking of Killala and on to the capture of Castlebar has been given the backing of the members of Castlebar Town Council. The event which is called “In Humbert’s Footsteps” is being planned as a major event of this year’s Gathering festivities in Mayo. The members of the council were given a presentation on the planned event by Mick Baines and Damien Cashin from the committee who are organising the event, which will be staged over the weekend of Friday, August 16 to Sunday, August 18 starting in north Mayo and finishing off in Castlebar.
