Michael Mee headlining a new night of comedy

On Saturday May 29 John Donnellan and Danny Dowling will showcase a night of new jokes, spoofs, and sketches at the Comedy Comedy gig in the Róisín Dubh. Headlining will be Michael Mee who has been described by Time Out New York as ‘Woody Allen with a Cork brogue’. The Irish Times described his performance as simply ‘hilarious’.

Pete Jonas (pictured), one of Australia’s top comedians, headlines the Comedy Club at Cuba* tomorrow night. Comedy bible website Chortle described him as “a sleek professional act whose pace, emphasis, and rhythm of his delivery is spot-on. A rock-solid act guaranteed to entertain”. Support is from Ross Brown and Jimmy Hayes. Gerry Mallon is the MC. Tickets are available in advance at Bar 903, The Cellar Bar, and at the door which opens at 8.30pm.

Laughter aplenty at the Galway Arts Festival

THE RISE of Irish comedy both nationally and internationally over the last 25 years has been truly inspirational. Galway has played an important part in the ascendancy of many Irish comedians by providing them with a platform to develop their craft. The city has also given many of them their first experience of a festival.

Smyth nets three titles

It was a great weekend for Mark Smyth, who netted three A titles at the 2009 Galway Lawn Tennis Club Championships, sponsored by Fitzgerald Grogan chartered accountants.
