GMIT’s acclaimed degree course in religious studies is approaching its 25th anniversary and begins its next cycle next month (September). The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has this morning appointed the Most Reverend Brendan Kelly, Bishop of Achonry, as the new Bishop of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora. It is planned that Bishop Brendan’s installation will take place in the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and Saint Nicholas on 11 February 2018, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The former Bishop of Galway Eamon Casey, who passed away on Monday afternoon at a Co Clare nursing home, was born in Co Kerry on April 24 1927.
