The Holland influence in Galway

In the year 1900, Patrick Holland had a travelling shop near Athenry. He later opened a shop there and is credited with having the first car in the town. In 1914 he met Dorinda Egan and it was love at first sight. They married and had five children Brendan, Michael, Maureen, Angela and John. They eventually moved to Galway in 1930, and tried to set up a business in Dominick St. but the bank would not give them the money. They eventually managed to buy the premises of Mary Leahy’s Newsagency in Williamsgate Street.

Connemara native and well known GP, Dr Maitiú Ó Tuathail, Medical Director of Heroes-Aid, has gained international media attention after posting a video on social media to debunk the myth that face masks lowers the wearer’s oxygen levels. Dr Ó Tuathail posted a video of himself to his Twitter page wearing six face masks while connected to a monitor displaying no change in his oxygen levels, to demonstrate that face masks have no effect on a wearer’s blood oxygen levels.

Heroes Aid delivers PPE across city and county

Heroes-Aid, a voluntary not-for-profit organisation, established in the early stage of Covid 19, to protect and support frontline health care workers, is arranging for the direct distribution today of urgently needed PPE to 200 locations across Ireland, including 19 sites across County Galway.
