The purists and traditionalists will be out with the long knives criticising the quality of what unfolded in our showpiece club competition, but Knockmore couldn't care less, they have impressively won back-to-back county senior titles for the first time since 1997.

Knockmore claimed their tenth Mayo senior football championship and second in a row after a hard fought win over a brave and battling Belmullet side in Ballina on Sunday afternoon.

The location really could not be better for Sunday's Mayo Senior Football Championship final. With James Stephens Park in Ballina hosting two north Mayo sides battling it out to be the best in land, something special is brewing up for Sunday.

Sunday was another hectic day on the football fields across the county, with spots in the senior, intermedaite, junior and junior B championships up for grabs - along with a intermediate championship relegation final. 

Five of the eight games to be played this weekend in the Mayo GAA Senior Football Championship have been completed since Friday night. We know know six of the eight quarter-finalists for the competition.

This weekend sees the start of the Mayo GAA Senior Football Championship with eight games taking place across four different groups. Knockmore are the defending champions and the rest of the pack will be going all guns blazing to hunt down Ray Dempsey's men this time around. We look ahead to all the action over a hectic weekend of games.

At 2pm on Saturday afternoon, the hopes and dreams of three Mayo schools will all come down to what happens on the football field, as St Colman's College, Claremorris, Ballinrobe Community School and Our Lady's, Belmullet, all go looking for victory on the field of battle.
