Theatrical and surreal, Poor Things worked for me
Based on a 1992 novel of the same name (although it does make some pretty big changes). Poor Things is the latest film from Yorgos Lanthimos, one of the more interesting directors working today. It is also co-produced by Irish production company Element Pictures, the fourth time they have worked with Lanthimos.

Dark Waters; entertaining, rage inducing drama
As a fan of previous little guy versus behemoth law films such as Erin Brockovich or anger filling plots like In the Name of the Father, I just had to go and see Dark Waters in the cinema and I was not disappointed. Dark Waters tell us the story behind Cincinnati corporate lawyer Rob Bilott's (Mark Ruffalo) 20 year crusade against chemical company DuPont's unregulated misuse of a chemical compound known as 'C8' which causes illness, cancer, and death in creatures which consume it.
Cinema review: Spotlight
THE SURPRISE of the year so far is Spotlight. Much like Room it is an uncomfortable topic that will be avoided by people but you should not avoid it (or Room for that matter). The film concentrates on the investigation run by the Boston Globe in 1999/2000, on the systematic abuse and ensuing cover-up by the Catholic church throughout the last century.
