The Mayo hurlers are hitting the long road to Owenbeg to face Derry this Saturday and get their Christy Ring Cup campaign off to a start for another year.

The Mayo senior hurling team will be looking to make it two wins from two in Elverys MacHale Park when Meath come to town. Last Sunday Mayo got their National Hurling League Division 2B campaign off to a winning start when they had eight points to spare over Donegal in Letterkenny, while Meath went down by 10 points to Kildare in Trim on a scoreline of 0-24 to 0-14.

With only one of the three football champions in Mayo picking up provincial honours this year, it is all down to the Ballyhaunis hurlers to keep the Mayo flag flying in the Connacht club championship. On Sunday JP Coen’s side will make the trip to Athleague to take on Pádraig Pearse’s from Galway in the Connacht intermediate final.
