Kilkenny welcomed last year’s Junior All-Ireland champions to Bennettsbridge last week in the opening round of the TG4 All-Ireland intermediate series and got off to a lightening start with points from Orla McCormick, Elena Byrne and Jenny Reddy to open up a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after twenty minutes.

On Sunday afternoon at an excellent Bennetsbridge pitch the Kilkenny intermediate girls recorded their first win of the Bord Gáis Energy National League when they beat a struggling Offaly side. The Cats set out their stall early and owned the ball in the opening minutes.

The Kilkenny women hosted Leitrim for the first time in round 3 of the National League on Sunday and despite little between the sides for the opening third of the match, the Northwest girls showed their experience and their brace of goals ensured their victory.

Kilkenny ladies could be forgiven for facing Roscommon somewhat with intrepidation in this TG4 intermediate ladies football fixture, having suffered a heavy defeat to the Rossies in the national league semi final in April. The Cats were well beaten by Longford in their opening game of the championship while Roscommon managed a draw with Longford a week earlier. However the form book was well and truly torn up and the Cats were unlucky not to come away with a win at Larchfield on Sunday last.

Tullogher and James Stephens met on Tuesday last in the ladies junior football championship replay at St Kierans College and the game proved to be a thriller with the result in the balance right to the end.
