Nobody heading into Pearse Stadium on Sunday afternoon could have foreseen the absolute tanking Galway received at the hands of the reigning All Ireland champions Tipperary.

It was mixed fortunes for Kilkenny hurling last weekend. The county side got off to the best possible start in the league when they proved too strong for All-Ireland champions Tipperary. While on Sunday both John Lockes of Callan and Dicksboro saw their All-Ireland aspirations go up in smoke against their Cork counterparts.

The nominees for the 2010 Opel GPA Hurling Team of the Year were announced earlier in the week by the Gaelic Players Association. A total of 45 players have been shortlisted for the Team of the Year, while four players also received nominations for the prestigious Opel GPA Hurler of the Year Award.

It will be a case of straight back up on the horse as Kilkenny renew their hurling rivalry with Tipperary early in the new year with a February league clash.
