Kate’s Orantown Centre and choosing a good oil

image preview

Kate Wright has moved from her Cobblestones Cafe in Quay Lane, Galway, to a location upstairs in the Orantown Centre in Oranmore. A courageous move, I would think, but I am sure the legendary high rents in the city have something to do with it. Similar to the article last week about the new owners in Loughrea, these premises have also had two previous incarnations. The fact that Kate makes absolutely everything on site every day should make the difference and help make this a success.

Cooking the Wright way

The aroma of freshly baked scones leads many ‘foodies’ down the cobbled Kirwan’s Lane to Kate Wright’s Cobblestone Café. Still others wander down the mediaeval lane to give Kate’s most faithful café companion a friendly pat on the head. Lilly – Kate’s dog, has become synonymous over the past 10 years with Cobblestone, and even features on the café’s website, www.galwaycookeryclasses.com.

Good things on offer in Westside

image preview

I called into Martin Divilly's butcher's shop in Westside and picked out some treats from their quite amazing selection. They have practically every meat type available that you can think of, and of course much of their focus is on providing meat that is prepped and ready for the oven. I sampled some of the stir fries selection and can recommend the Hong Kong stir fry made with round steak, the Piri Piri stir fry made with pork, and the Mexican stir fry made with chicken. Perhaps the handiest way to cook them is to just pop it in the oven for 15/20 minutes and serve.
