Calling all graduates of St Patrick’s National School

On April 1, 1954, 941 boys marched from the Bish National School, Nuns’ Island, and from the Old Mon in Market Street to their ultra-modern bright new school, St Patrick’s, which was situated at the corner of Lombard Street and Bridge Street. The new school was built on a site which had been the location of the Shambles Barracks, which was occupied by the British army for many years up until 1909.

THIS SATURDAY marks the 30th anniversary of the death of the legendary Galway fiddle player and traditional Irish musician Mickey Finn. His passing will be marked in a weekend of memorial sessions at The Crane Bar, from Friday April 21 to Sunday 23, featuring Mickey’s widow, Lena Finn, as well as Sean Ryan, Jackie Small, and Mickey’s brother Johnny Finn.
Ballinrobe gears up for Mayo Fleadh
The fleadh cheoil season is upon us again and it is time to take to the road. This year’s Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo will take place in Ballinrobe on the weekend of Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8, full details of the event were announced in Ballinrobe recently. The launch was performed by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Holmes, emphasising the growing links between Mayo Comhaltas and Mayo County Council.
