Fresh from retaining its prestigious Blue Flag and Green Coast status for 2026, Salthill’s shoreline is once again being recognised as one of Galway’s most treasured coastal spaces.

Loughrea Lake has once again secured its Blue Flag status for 2026, as announced by An Taisce at a ceremony held in County Cork last week. This recognition places Long Point among the top inland bathing spots in the country, highlighting the lake’s ‘excellent water quality, safety measures, and environmental management’.

After a break in 2020, 15 volunteer groups have signed up for Clean Coasts’ Big Beach Clean 2021 and are ready to tackle marine litter in Mayo.
