Sinn Féin spokesperson on Further and Higher Education, Dep Mairéad Farrell, has said that students and parents seeking accommodation for the coming academic year should first check with the national housing charity, Threshold, which is running its annual Scamwatch campaign.

With 20,000 students expected to be seeking accommodation in Galway in the coming weeks, a warning has been issued urging vigilance against organised rental scams.

Representatives from the City of Galway Shipping company visited Galway RNLI during their weekly training session, to present the charity with a donation of €5,000. The company, which has been in operation since 1947, is based a short distance from the Galway lifeboat station, at New Docks.
