Manulla keep things interesting at the top
Manulla were back giant killing again at the weekend when they defeated Ballina Town in a pulsating contest. With it delicately poised at the break at 1-1 Manulla kicked for home in the second period. Aidan O’Hora was on target for Ballina Town while Gary Durkan and Enda McGahon bagged the crucial goals for Tom Healy’s men. Westport Utd put their harrowing defeat to Ballyglass behind them from last weekend with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Charlestown Athletic. Goals from Pat Fitzgerald, Joe Lawless, and veteran Vinny O’Malley were enough for John Brennan’s men.
Breaffy win derby battle while Crossmolina, Hollymount-Carramore and Kilmaine keep up winning runs
A two goal first half salvo from Aidan O’Shea inspired Breaffy to their first win in the Mayo GAA Senior Football League this season as they saw off local rivals Castlebar Mitchels in Munnelly Park in Castlebar on Sunday. Both sides lined out with out key players for this contest with Seamus O’Shea serving a one match suspension for Breaffy after being dismissed early in their loss to Ballintubber a fortnight ago, while for Castlebar Mitchels neither Tom Cunniffe or Patrick Durcan were available for selection.

It took just two games and two rounds of extra time for the gladiators from Claremorris and Ballina Stephenites in the Mayo GAA u21 final. On Sunday afternoon, it was the men from south Mayo who emerged victorious and claimed their first A championship at this grade.

When we previewed the semi-finals of this competition, we said that Ballina were going to have to be on the top of their game to take down an impressive looking Breaffy side, and Ballina were just that. Tough, hard-working, and when it came to the crunch holding their nerve in digging out the win. When it looked like their semi-final was heading towards extra-time sub John Moylette kept his cool and put the ball between the posts to book their deserved spot in the final. This Ballina team coming good at u21 this year really should not be that much of a surprise as in 2011, this crop of players picked up the minor A title.
