A total of 91 employers from Mayo have pledged a job as part of a national campaign encouraging small and medium sized businesses to help the economy recover by hiring more staff.

Hireland has announced that it has surpassed its original target of 5,000 job pledges, in less than six months since its launch date. Of those pledges, more than 2,000 people have secured employment via the Hireland initiative, including 85 in County Mayo.

Companies in Galway have promised to create 105 jobs — the highest number of jobs pledged in the country outside Dublin — under the recently launched Hireland initiative.

An initiative aimed at encouraging job creation for Ireland’s skilled unemployed launched last week has already received 1,177 job pledges from businesses all around the country. Of those 710 are in the Dublin region while the remaining 467 pledges are from businesses located across 19 counties, which includes 39 jobs pledged from Mayo.
