This year Bank of Ireland marks the 175th anniversary of its establishment in Ballinasloe. Founded in 1783, and set up in Ballinasloe in 1836, Bank of Ireland has been an integral part of the economic development of the town and its large agricultural hinterland over those 175 years. A search through the archives reveals some interesting snapshots in time.

Most of the area seen in this photograph was once part of a grant of land to Edward Eyre in 1670. It was all originally outside the city walls and was mostly made up of three islands which included St Stephen’s Island and Horse Island.

THE GALWAY Baroque Singers, with their musical director Audrey Corbett, will present their annual Christmas concerts in a new venue, the Franciscan Church (The Abbey), Francis Street.
