FESTIVALS COME thick and fast in Galway this time of the year. The Comedy Carnival has only just finished, but next week will see the launch of the TULCA Festival of Visual Arts which runs from November 7 to 23.

With many shows sold out this year’s attendance at the Galway Arts Festival is well on its way to reaching record numbers proving that not even the recession can keep lovers of the arts away from an event which has gained national and international recognition.

This year’s Galway Arts festival succeeds yet again in giving some insight into the minds of remarkable artists whose personal magic interprets our world. These include international journalists Niall O’Dowd, John Lancaster, several writers including Bret Easton Ellis, and the renowned theatre and opera director Sir Peter Hall. On Saturday afternoon, the playwright and poet Frank McGuinness teased out some paths through the labyrinthine mind of Ireland’s leading painter Brian Bourke.

GLAM ROCK legends the New York Dolls and a major dance show by the brilliant Michael Clark, inspired by the Glam era of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed, are just two of the many exciting shows, concerts, events, readings, and exhibitions lined up for this year’s Galway Arts Festival, which runs from July 13 to 26.
