Ballina man Sean O’Donnell scooped one of the most prized accolades in the farming sector in Ireland on Tuesday night.

Ballina man Sean O'Donnell was named the FBD Young Farmer of the Year at an awards ceremony in Bantry, Cork, last night.

The 16th FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition has been launched and young farmers in Mayo who are actively involved in the running of a farm, full or part time, are invited to apply. A county winner will be chosen who will go through to the All-Ireland final in September. The competition was launched by organisers, Macra na Feirme, sponsor FBD, and partner, the IFA.

Claire Rynn from Castlepollard was named the best young farmer in Westmeath at a ceremony in Wexford this week.

The Westmeath FBD Young Farmer of the Year county finalist has been announced as Claire Rynn. She will go on to represent her county at the semi-final of the 13th annual FBD Young Farmer of the Year Competition, run by Macra na Feirme in partnership with the IFA.

The Kilkenny FBD Young Farmer of the Year county finalist has been announced as Michael Power.

The presentation ceremony for the annual Mayo People of the Year Awards took place on Friday last in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport, Co Mayo.
