Only one case of a severe form of Lyme disease, a bacterial infection which can be spread to humans by infected ticks, was reported in Galway last year, according to figures released by the HSE. This was the first case to have been reported in the county for four years.

Specialist menopause clinic at UHG

Sixty patients have attended a regional menopause clinic since it was set up in November of last year. The facility, which is based at University Hospital Galway, is a specialist service for women with additional needs around menopause care. Women are referred to the clinic which is open one afternoon per week.

Calls for longer opening hours for Ballinasloe running track

Calls are being made for the Galway County Council running track in Dunlo, Ballinasloe, to have its hours of operation extended from 7am to 9pm and for it to open on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Naughten seeks an increased bus service to Portiuncula University Hospital

Local Independent Deputy, Denis Naughten, has revealed there is a 60 percent reduction in the number of buses facilitating patients and visitors attending Portiuncula University Hospital as a result of the decision by the National Transport Authority not to replace the lost Bus Éireann services.
