A third of Irish people are ‘not at all worried’ about skin cancer, worrying new research has revealed, despite the fact that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland and claims over 230 lives each year - according to the Irish Cancer Society.

Mayo is one of 10 areas nationwide which has a high rate of bowel cancer and the society is urging people in Mayo and the other bowel cancer ‘hotspots’ to reduce their risk of bowel cancer by making some small lifestyle changes.

At the launch of the Irish Cancer Society’s Lung Cancer Awareness campaign 2012, the society has expressed concern at a recent report which shows lung cancer has overtaken breast cancer as the biggest cause of cancer death in women in Ireland for the first time. This year the society is encouraging everyone to Look After Your Lungs, know how best to prevent lung cancer, know the signs and symptoms and if you are concerned, go to your GP.
