GMIT has announce an exciting programme of events to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day on the theme ‘Each for Equal’ (#EachforEqual). International Women’s Day on March 8 celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender equality. GMIT is marking this special day with a series of events running until March 12 in all campuses.

And so the curtain falls on another lively year of Galwaytheatre in which both home-based and visiting companies provided much to savour and, as is the way of things, some misses as well as hits.

RISING STAR and Irish soul singer Brian Deady brought down the curtain on this year’s Galway International Arts Festival in fine style with a rousing gig at the Róisín Dubh on Sunday night.

Despite an official start date of Monday July 11, the Galway International Arts Festival is actually getting under way this weekend, with preview shows for three of its highest profile plays, while street spectacle, Insects, takes place on Sunday.

EILEEN GRAY defied categorisation throughout her long life. Born in Enniscorthy, Wexford, in 1878, she was one of the foremost furniture designers and architects of the last century, with her iconic Dragon Chair fetching the highest ever price at auction for a piece of 20th century furniture, yet many people are not familiar with her.

Lately we have been enjoying the first few sunny days of the year but another real marker of impending summer is the programme launch of the Galway International Arts Festival.
