Further commitment made by Erris Inshore Fishermen’s Association to tackle marine litter

The Erris Inshore Fishermen’s Association has announced its commitment to tackling the issue of marine litter through its participation in Bord Iascaigh Mhara’s (BIM) voluntary national programme, Fishing For Litter.

IFA president tours Mayo’s aquaculture sector

IFA president Joe Healy this week met with a number of aquaculture producers (fish and shellfish farmers) in Mayo. Aquaculture is a substantial industry in Mayo primarily located in Clew Bay and Achill. The latest figures from BIM, the Seafood Development Agency, show that 143 people are employed in the fish and shellfish farming industry in Mayo, and the local fish farming industry is worth in excess of €19 million. The county produces around 4,660 tonnes of high quality organic salmon, organic mussels, Pacific and native oysters.

Skipper Expo a great success for Galway

The Skipper Expo Int. Galway 2016 held in the city earlier this month has been hailed a great success with a record number of exhibitors and visitors.Sponsored by BIM, crowds thronged the show over the two days, attracted by a diverse range of stands covering virtually every area of the fishing industry equipment and supply sectors.
