Ballina Town stretched their lead at the top of the Elverys Sports Super League table after another comfortable 3-0 win over Ballyheane on Sunday morning. Benny Lavelle scored his 10th league goal of the season to give Mick Duffy’s side the lead and Fabinho Macario made it 2-0 before the break. Dylan McKee added a further goal in the second half to move them three points clear of second place Straide & Foxford United who they meet next in the next round of the league.

Tomorrow evening sees the Connacht Gold Super Cup quarterfinals down for decision as the league action takes a backseat for a weekend. The line-up sees Ballyglass host league leaders Westport United, Straide and Foxford United will tangle with Castlebar Celtic in Celtic Park, Achill Rovers will host Glenhest Rovers, and Ballyheane will travel north to take on Ballina Town.

The two grand old clubs of Mayo soccer met in Celtic Park yesterday evening in one of the most eagerly anticipated clashes so far this season. Also in action last night were fifth placed Claremorris and a bottom of the table Ballina Town, a game Ballina really need to pick up some points in as they look to pull themselves away from the relegation battle.

Straide and Foxford look to stay top of the table

League leaders Straide and Foxford United will look to keep their place at the top of the Super League this weekend when they make the trip to Glenhest Rovers. Last weekend, the men from Green Road had a 3-1 win against fellow newly promoted side Achill Rovers at home. United hit their visitors hard in the first half and went in leading 3-0 at the break thanks to goals from Kevin Langdon, Conor Sherry and John Durkan. A Kevin McGinty goal in the second half cut the gap back to two, but the home side were able to hold on for their fourth win of the season.
