First major test for Claremorris awaits
Much like last season, Claremorris have hit the ground running early in the Elverys Sports Super League. Maximum points from their opening brace of games, have the south Mayo side sitting on top of the league table, albeit ahead only ahead of Westport United on goal difference. On Sunday, Claremorris will have to make their first away trip of the season when they travel to the home of the champions Castlebar Celtic.
Super Sunday evening in Super League
Castlebar Celtic will be hoping to cut their nearest challengers off at the pass on Sunday evening as the Mayo Super League season comes up near its midway point for the year. Declan Kilkelly’s charges go into their sixth game with four wins out of five so far on Sunday. Their nearest challengers are Super League newboys Claremorris who are hot on their heels, only one point behind the leaders. Celtic dropped two points when they drew with Swinford in round two, while Claremorris’s only blotch on their copy book so far came when they lost by the odd goal in five to Manulla in the same round.
Connacht Gold Cup could throw up some surprises
Claremorris, who have had a great start to the Super League this season winning three of their opening four games, will be looking to keep up that good form on Saturday evening in the Connacht Gold Cup, the only all top level clash of the round. Michael Hutton’s side will make the trip to The Green to take on a bottom of the table Ballinrobe Town side who have not even been able to get a point on the board so far this season. Ballinrobe are coming into the game off the back of a 4-2 home defeat to league leaders Castlebar Celtic, while Claremorris were the latest side to topple defending champions Ballina Town with a 3-1 win in north Mayo. Derek Glynn was the man on target for Claremorris last weekend, grabbing all three goals in their win.
