The Government’s recent Springboard+ announcement sees one of Ireland’s newly formed Technological Universities, Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), offering 1,300 places across twenty-nine programmes for learners across its campuses for 2022/23.

Athlone IT, Ireland’s next technological university following a merger with LIT and soon to be known as Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, has been awarded 929 of those places across Springboard+ and ICT skills upskilling programmes, representing more than €4m in supported learning to be availed off by the Athlone campus through this initiative.

I’m going to begin this column with really interesting creative and exciting news. Last Friday night I was invited to launch a book called Tales from the Heart – New Creative Writing from Athlone Institute of Technology. Now, this is a compilation by Mick Donnellan of nineteen writers who attended his creative writing course for the last number of months. The course is conducted under the aegis of the Department of Lifelong Learning in Athlone IT.
