Keith Cronin & Mikie Galvin were the impressive winners of the 2024 Corrib Oil Galway International Rally when they had 38.1 seconds to spare over Callum Devine & Noel O’Sullivan in their VW Polo R5.

Galway Motor Club held a well attended and successful launch of the Corrib Oil Galway International Rally on Friday night last in the Connacht Hotel. Among the attendees were the Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Eddie Hoare, Cathaoirleach Galway County, Cllr Liam Caroll, as well as representatives of Corrib Oil, the Connacht Hotel and Rallying for Down Syndrome. The event was expertly compered by Michael Lyster of formerly of RTE.

The entry list for the 2023 Corrib Oil Galway International Rally has been revealed and it contains a stunning line up of drivers and machinery. Over 150 drivers have entered the traditional season opener in the West of Ireland, and it looks like being one of the most competitive ever seen. Top seeds by virtue of winning the Tarmac Championship last year are Josh Moffett & Andy Hayes in a Hyundai i20 R5. This crew also won Galway last year to set them on the way to championship success. Behind them are Meirion Evans & Jonathan Jackson with the Welsh pair using their usual VW Polo and looking to go one better than last year in Galway where they pushed Moffett all the way to the end.

Monaghan’s Josh Moffett (Hyundai i20 R5) and his Limerick co-driver Keith Moriarty took a start-to-finish victory on the McHugh’s Service Station Mayo Rally, the opening round of the Triton Showers backed Motorsport Ireland Rally Championship.

Conditions were perfect for the return of the Mayo Stages Rally to Achill Island. After the success of last year’s event, clerk of the course Trevor O’Connell and his team rose to the occasion to make an every bigger and more spectacular event.

The 2016 Corrib Oil Galway International Rally marked the introduction of the R5 category of cars as the main vehicles in the Irish Tarmac Championship.

The entry of more than 100 cars has been seeded by the organisers and the rally winner is likely to come from one of the top 20 seeds.
