Mayo do well in the midlands
A tight finish to last weekend’s 2014 Midland Moto Stages Rally saw Paddy McVeigh from Tyrone come out on top over Pirelli star Daniel McKenna. The pair battled for the top spot throughout and only four hundredths of a second separated them at the final service. On the final loop McVeigh’s advantage of four wheel drive in his Subaru Impreza WRC told over Mckenna’s Ford Escort MK2. Longford man Tommy Doyle banged and popped his way to third in his high revving Renault Clio. A tight loop of mixed fast flowing and technical driving stages awaited the crews on Sunday last and the event as always, attracted a number of Mayo & District entries.
Mayo drivers put the foot down in Sligo
Donegal driver Declan Boyle and his cousin Brian increased their stranglehold on this year's Dunlop National Rally Championship by taking their Subaru Impreza to their fourth win from five rounds on the Sligo Park Hotel Stages Rally. They were the clear winners, finishing more than a minute ahead of Niall Maguire and co-driver Enda Sherry despite the rally being shortened from nine stages to six when the extreme heat caused problems with the road surface in places.
Stylish new Ford B-Max opens a practical world
I just been away to drive the Ford B-MAX, which arrives in Ireland in September with an entry level price of €19,170 ex-works. In the past decade, there have three things that I automatically expect when I drive a new model Ford for the first time. It will be among the best handling and most manouvrable cars, it will have a good sound system and finally, it will be functional. The new B-Max did not disappoint on all three, writes Padraic Deane.
