Concerns over the ability to have a healthy sex life after tackling heart disease will be one of the topics to be discussed next week when local heart and stroke charity Croí will host a series of free public talks, seminars, workshops and ‘walk-in risk factor screening and assessments.

Heart charity Croí, the west of Ireland’s cardiology foundation, in collaboration with HSE West’s Mayo Primary, Community, and Continuing Care, has announced the appointment of Ballina nurse Ailish Houlihan to lead an innovative, community based, cardiovascular disease prevention programme for County Mayo. The programme, which will be known as Heart Smart Mayo, will integrate with the primary care teams in Mayo, identifying and targeting those most at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

A new initiative by local heart charity Croi aims to change the lifestyles of 450 people in the west considered to be most at risk from heart disease, Ireland’s biggest killer.
