Secondary school students from all over Westmeath are gearing up to compete in the Westmeath County Student Enterprise Awards, to take place on Friday March 6 in Golden Island Shopping Centre, Athlone. The winning team will represent Westmeath in the national finals in May.

A team from Westmeath beat off stiff competition in the F1 in Schools regional finals to make it through to the national finals in April. The Colts from Marist College, Athlone, will battle it out against 23 other teams from around the country for the title of F1 in Schools Champions 2009. At the regional finals, another team from Westmeath, Team Dynamo from Columba College, Killucan, won the award for the Fastest D-Type Car.

Over 90 secondary students from Westmeath entered the ‘Dragons Den – What’s your big idea?’ competition run by Westmeath County Enterprise Board to encourage students to get their thinking hats on to come up with innovative business ideas.
