What's new at Merlin College
Hard luck to the U-15s boys' football team who lost their Connacht A semi final to Clarin College. An outstanding strike from Lee Lydon (Galway United) had put Merlin ahead going into the break. It was Clarin College who would have the better of the second half though, they equalised early in the second half and showed great determination to score a late winner on the day when the game seemed destined for extra time. This Merlin team showed unbelievable skill, strength and resilience on a cold wet day and the school could not be prouder of their achievements.
Department commits to addressing Athenry school places shortage, says Cannon
Local Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon has this week confirmed that the Department of Education is now engaging with secondary school Principals in Athenry town in order to ensure sufficient school places in the town this September. In a letter to Deputy Cannon, officials say that they are aware of a potential shortage of places and are analysing enrolment data submitted by the three schools.
