There is plenty of optimism in the air this week as the local economy is in line for an injection of more than €90 million due to the success of the Galway International Arts Festival and the numbers going through the turnstills at the Galway Races so far up on previous years.

Insufficient ticket sales have put an end to a new outdoor, two-day music festival which was planned to take place in Thomastown this weekend, although organisers have confirmed they hope an indoor event will go ahead in its stead.

A strong line-up of performers remains in tact for the proposed Dysart Festival, which had originally been planned for the grounds of Dysart Castle in Thomastown, but due to poor ticket sales has been moved to a city centre venue.
