The members of Mayo County Council are to fund their own study trips in the future it was agreed at the June monthly meeting of the local authority.

Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne put forward a motion at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council calling on the authority not to issue full payment to contractors until they have paid all subcontractors. This is to be included as a clause on contracts issued to main contractors. The motion received huge support from Cllr Kilcoyne’s fellow councillors this week.

The idea of scrapping town councils and county development boards, and merging Mayo and Roscommon county councils into one administrative unit as proposed under the Local Government Efficiency Review Groups report was strongly rejected by the elected members of Mayo County Council this week.
